Energy Absorbing Lanyards
Energy absorbing lanyards are ones with a shock absorbing element which is capable of keeping the forces on the user and the anchor point to below 6kN in the event of a fall from height. The most common design is a simple length of tape stitched into a Z shape, with sacrificial stitches which tear at a given force, dissipating the energy as they tear, whilst retaining the strength of the tape into which they are sewn. Fall arrest lanyards by their design are energy absorbing lanyards.
